Cahoon was born in Delta, n son oi Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cahoon, ii .nl a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. orson Calioon of Deseret, who survive sur-vive him. and also his widow, Mrs. miodu Cutler Cahoon, and a sister, sis-ter, Miss Vera Cahoon, and brother oien Cahoon, all of Salt Lake City. Lt. Cahoon was raised in Salt Lake City, where his parents have made their home for many years, iiiKl was a graduate of the U of U. lie took special courses in commercial com-mercial art in lxis Angeles, and was employed with Intermountain '1 neater, Inc., when he entered the service m 1942. He was commissioned commiss-ioned at Corpus Christi in 1943, and went overseas July 8, 194)1, after a year in Florida as an instructor. I The U. S. Marine Corps recruiting recruit-ing office in Salt Lake City announced an-nounced the enlistment of Howard James Church in the regulars for a period of two years. Howard is the son of George D. and Lorraine C. Church of Delta, Utah. He attended at-tended the Delta high school and hunting,- swimming and hiking were his favorite sports. He "was sworn in on March 15, 1946, by Captain Maynard W. Schmidt, USMCR, and left for San Diego on the 16th of March where he will undergo seven weeks of recruit training. Jesse Beckstead, AMM 3c, returned return-ed to Delta Monday, after service in the Pacific. He received his release re-lease from the navy at shoemaker on March 13. His brother, Melvin Beckstead, who is with the coast guard, is also home at this time, coming down from Seattle, and another an-other brother, Rex Beckstead, and sister, Mrs. Adeline Petty from Salt Lake City, are here tor the family gathering at the hrme of their parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Beckstead. Fort Sitll, Oi-.m., March 13 Neil W. Colby, De.a, Utah, who is assigned as-signed to headquarters and headquarters head-quarters Detachment, school troop, field artilery school as Fort Sitll, has been promoted to technician iitth grade.. Corporal Colby entered the service ser-vice in June 1M45 and has been transferred to Fort Sitll from Camp Hood, Texas, following the completion com-pletion of his basic training. Before Be-fore entering the service Corporal Colby was graduated from Delta high school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs Frank L. Colby, Delta, tUah. Edward D. Harris, ETM 1c, of Delta, tUah, was honcxably discharged dis-charged from the navy at the Naval Na-val Personnel separation center at Shoemaker, California, on March II, 1946. He arrived home on Mar. 15. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harris, of Delta. He has made application with Pan-American airways to operate a radio terminal either at Wake, Guam or Manila, and will remain at home with his parents until he has definite word from that company. com-pany. Pearl Harbor, T. H. (delayed) W. S. Watts, 19, seaman second class, USN, is en route to Shang-. Shang-. hai on the destroyer USS Samuel N. Moore. During the war the Moore operated oper-ated with Task force 38 and with the Third and Fifth Fleets. She participated in engagements off Formosa, Lingayen Gulf, Ma-, Ma-, nila, Okinawa, Kyushu, Tokyo, and Honshu. Fort Douglas, Utah, 13 March 19-46 19-46 Roland K. Robins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenith R. Robins, Delta, Utah, was promoted to corporal today at the Fort Douglas was department de-partment personnel center. Cpl. Robins, who entered the , service Sept. 6, 1946, is presently assigned to the separation center m detachment. SSgt. Gene Dutson was honor- M? ably discharged from the army on fcr Feb. 23. He served 33 months, one year of which was spent in Hawaii, Okinawa and Japan. At the time he became eligible for discharge he was stationed in Kyushu, Japan. He was clerk in the adjutant general's gen-eral's department. He is authorized to wear the Good Conduct Medal, Victory medal, me-dal, Asiatic- Pacific Theater of Operations Op-erations ribbon, with one battle f star for the Okinawa campaign, and the American Theater ribbon. SSgt Dene Dutson was honorably honor-ably discharged February 21, after having served 37 months with the army air force. He was stationed at Ellingstan Field, Texas, as a radio operator. ' He is authorized to wear the Victory medal, Good Conduct me- dal and American Theater of Op erations ribbon. Acel Nielson, who is stationed at Fort Douglas with the army is now home on a furlough. Leoyd Lovell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Lovell, came home Saturday after his discharge from the army. Mrs. Caddie Anderson and son Doyle and Norma Lovell went to Sait Lake Wednesdav and returned Saturday with Leoyd. Bryce Finlinson, who is stationed with the navy at Chicago, is home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Finlinson. N Darwon Barney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Barney, returned home on Wednesday night from Shoemaker, Shoemak-er, Cal., where he had his release from the navy. |
