Show Couple Drowns In Wayne Co. Vhile Fishing Mr. and Mrs. Cloy Broderick were at Fish Lake for the opening open-ing of the fishing season, when they were notified that Mrs. Brod-erick's Brod-erick's brother, Edward. LaVell Mortensen, 26, and his wife, Mrs. Rhea Maxfield Mortensen, 25, had been drowned. Mr. Broderick left immediately for the scene of. the accident to help in the dragging operations to recover the bodies. The young couple had been fishing in Forsyth reservoir, 11 miles northeast of Fremont, in Wayne county, Saturday afternoon. Apparently their boat swamped and capsized in a squall on the reservoir. Mrs. Mortensen's father, John Albert Maxfield, was with them in the boat, and was rescued. Both the young couple were able swimmers, but were unable to keep afloat until help came. Mrs. Mortensen's body was recovered Sunday and Mr. Morntensen's was brought out Monday. He was a veteran of World Warr II, serving as signal man on the USS Nevada and participated in the Normandy invasion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Emery ward chapel and burial will be in the Emery cemetery. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mortensen were born in Emery and were graduated from South Emery high school, Ferron. |
