Show CLEO WOOD. Four year county commissioner Cleo Wood has retired from the Iron County Commission. He will be replaced on the commission by Dee Cowan. Wood leaves office ascounty commissioner "I've enjoyed working for the county and have really tried to work for the county's interest," said retiring Commissioner Cleo Wood. Wood feels that water, power, and roads are the main concerns for growth in any county and hopes that future commissioners continue to expand in these areas. He also thinks that people are overburdened with taxes and that these need to be kept in line. The four year commissioner com-missioner was born in Grafton and has lived in Cedar City since 1956. He had served as a city councilman coun-cilman in Hurricane from 1953 to 1957. Wood said, "I didn't go into the Iron County Commission Com-mission to start with because I needed a job but because I am concerned about government. Today, we have a doubte layer of government working and really using up people's tax dollars." Wood has opposed any participation by Iron County in'" the Five County Association of Government . and is against the county's participation in the 208 Water Quality Testing Program. He feels that government "overlapping" is taking away people's rights and said, "We have too much government and government today is competing com-peting too much with free enterprise." Wood had opposed a salary increase for county commissioners, who presently receive $4,000 a year, at a public hearing last week. He feels that there should be a law against any public official receiving a pay raise form the time a person files to run for office to the end of the term of that office. "This county is financially in good shape and I do hope that they'll be able to keep it that way. Mr. Hulet and past commissioners have done a good job," said Wood. He said that Iron County is one of two or three counties in Utah which uses the present year's mill levy to pay next year's expenses. He said, "we have been fortunate to have had past county commissioners keeping it this way." County Commissioner Grant Seaman praised Cleo Wood's performance and said that Wood had only missed one commission meeting in his four years as a county commissioner. . jf ' x O "i , ' v f ' 1.1 NEW COMMISSIONER.
