Show 5 Letters To The Editor Editor: ' The American public is presently being subjected to a massive, two pronged propaganda effort: a promotion of Red China, and a campaign of villification against Taiwan. Already the cliches planted in the minds of the unsuspecting are being repeated in almost any serious conversation. Although it has long been the policy of our government to treat our enemies like friends and our friends like enemies, the more logical every-day citizen sometimes has to be convinced. So when it serves the purpose of a deceptive government, govern-ment, the media gears up to alter public opinion. Everyone from a network anchor-man to the stand-up comedian will get in into the action-with action-with a technique so effective it can destroy an communist leader of a nation or wipe out the career of an Anita Bryant. Since the only information most people have is from the same government approved source, thought control is as simple a maneuver as rolling marbles to one side of a pan. The same crowd that convinced the Americans that Fidel Castro was the "George Wasdhington of Cuba" will now prove to us that whoever happens to be onthe top of the heap in Red China at the moment is really a great humanitarian. We will be . : convinced con-vinced that our government won't leave the millions of Taiwanese to the mercy of the Reds as we did in Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia. Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the failing Soviet Union the economic boost it had to have when he granted it diplomatic recognition in 1933. Since that time American tax dollars have bolstered communism all over the world. Now, Democrat Jimmy Carter, turning his back on friend and ally Taiwan, has bestoed the same favor on Communist China. ; Unfortunately, the propaganda , campaign will succeed. The in-' tellectual elite and the slack-jawed masses will nod approval in unison, while the dissenter who dares think for himself will be branded a radical. With sorrow, Florence Wolfram Dear Mr. Carter: Thank you for your letter in the Iron County Record last week. I had asked some questions and you were kind enough to answer them. Had I thought & that M MnV (ne W those misconeerptions and questions I would have come to you directly rather than go throueh the news media. However. I had hoard enoueh j talk from individuals .throughout the j community that I felt others too were " interested and would benefit from these questions being asked, .Since writing my first letter. I have "No been able to find out sonic in- formation via other sources and 1 : have come to the conclusion that those who were made tn feel like they "had to pav the money back and quickly" were made to feel this way because of H.i the personality of the , one handling the traansaction.2. i a lack of understanding of the document by the one handling the transaction. (3 i their own pride and , sorrow at having to ask lor the help, or '4.) a combination of two or more ' of the above. Perhaps those having some of these feelings would do well to go directly to the one involved and try to straighten it out. 1 would have been entirely in agreeance with your letter had you said. "The paper in which they signed was a receipt showing that the Hishosphad issued the money and the v homeowner merely filled in if rather than when) he would like to pav it ' back." ( I am sure that each one of these afflicted families had to add from 25 In 3d thousand dollars tn conservative " estimate i to their existing financial . responsibilities in order to move their home. .According to the figures given, each homeowner will receive an average of $2,000 a piece, a small drop . in the bucket: but a gratefully ' received one. . Mav 1 express my appreciation to vou and other members of the Action Croup for taking the time out of your busy lives to raise this money and to the manv people who helped with time and money. Mav I also express my appreciation for a "free press" which allows us to exchange our views and feelings. I ! hope that this exchange has been helpful to those who have shared ' questions and concerns about this prolect. Thank you, Janet Weaver , |
