Show Alice R. Holyoak celebrates 100th Birthday t She attended the Murdock Academy in Beaver for three years. On June 21, 1904, she married Thomas K. Holyoak in the St. George Temple and shortly thereafter moved to Parowan. Alice has lived in Parowan since 1905 and raised seven children: Alice H. Barton, Thomas Vern, G. Roland, Emma H. Mortensen, Beth H. Clark, John R., and Hilda H. Grimshaw. Each summer Alice and her younger children would herd sheep at Cedar Breaks while her husband did the farming in the Parowan valley. Mrs. Holyoak has always been an active lady. She raised cnicKens unni sne was 94 years old, gardened garden-ed until 96, made quilts until 97, and has embroidered anywhere from 20 to 30 pillow cases each year. She has worked in the Sunday School and was a Relief Society Visiting Teacher for 47 years, walking to all church meetings and assignments-2',2 assignments-2',2 miles away. She also tried a ride in a helicopter. . .at age 98. Alice R. Holyoak now has 23 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, and will always be remembered for her homemade ice cream and root beer and, particularly, par-ticularly, her special sugar cookies. ALICE HOLYOAK PAROWAN . On Weenesday, June .29, Alice R. Holyoak will celebrate her 100th birthday. Alice Holyoak was born in Paragonah on June 29, 1877, to John R. and Emma S. Robinson. As a young girl, Alice's chores included many handicraft activities such as piecing quilts, knitting stockings and sewing rag rugs. She was instructed to piece a certain number of quilt blocks each day and so completed her first quilt at the tender age of 10. Alice was a little frightened of the Indians but while in her teens she did housework for ladies in Paragonah for 50 cents a week. She . attended elementary school in Paragonah and at 17 went to school in Beaver. |
