Show Security can be Many Things to Many People jj other hand is what I have more of arid it can begin with something as simple as a tearing sound when you bend over, or the snap of breaking elastic when you dive in the swimming pool. It gives me a real feeling of security to have a family doctor who knows all the kids by their first names and acts like he cares about them and insecurity sets in when one of the kids breaks an arm and the answering service says "sorry the doctor is out of town." 1 don't ask much just enough money to get from check to check, the kids all home and in bed by ten and a car that won't die in the middle of the intersection. PAROWAN - Seems like we do a lot of talking about security in these busy and slightly troubled times. And I sometir"s wonder what it is and where and how do you get it. It probably means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Security to a tiny toddler for example is as simple as a worn out blanket and a warm thumb, security to the toddlers Mom on the other hand is the sound of normal rythmic breathing coming from the crib at night, and a full box of disposable diapers. Security to a kindergarten beginner is a friend to walk to school with and a teacher who smiles when she helps zip up zippers and tie shoes. A teen-ager on the first day of a new school year looks for security in a pair of jeans, just faded enough not to look new, and new enough not to look old. Now, as we get a little older it gets a little more complicated. Security becomes the warm feeling you get inside when you get the living room picked up in the 15 seconds it takes the home teachers to get from their car to your door, and little things like the final closing of the door at night when your teen-agers are home and in bed. Security is enough money to get them back in the free public schools and outfitted for sports and marching. Security is a mother you can still turn to for advice when your kids turn to you for advice about their kids. It's a new girdle and panty hose that won't ride up or down as you walk, and stretch pants that stretch when and where they should. It's a nice dim light that dulls the bathroom mirror where you put on your makeup so the stray eyebrows, wrinkles and blemishes don't show up as much. It's a freezer full of meat that's not all shank and cupboard full of cans that's not all creamed corn. Now insecurity on the |
