Show -approved an agreement proposed by the District School Board attorney which would convey the ownership of the Wm. R. Palmer Indian Museum, now housed at the District Office, the Iron Mission State Historical Monument, a Division of the Utah State Parks and Recreation. The agreement must receive the approval of three parties including the State, the School District and the Wm. R. Palmer family. District Report -heard a brief report from members mem-bers of the District Administrative staff relative to specific assignments and immediate goals and objectives. Reports were given by Robert Stratton, Director of Title I, State and District Programs for the Handicapped, Han-dicapped, Pupil Personnel, Health Services and various title programs; Wayne Mifflin, who served in a duel capacity in cooperation with Cedar City Corporation as Recreation Direction and Community Education Coordinator; Max Dalley, director of Secondary Education; 0. Kent Hulet, Director of Elementary Education, and Bruce Decker, Director of Special Projects. At the meeting authorization was given for L. Robert Gardner, architect, ar-chitect, to complete negotiations for the installation of a sound system at East Elementary along with the current construction projects at the school and Superintendent Morris was authorized to negotiate the installation in-stallation of ventilation fans in restrooms at the Escalante Valley Elementary. Approval of additions at Parowan High School and Parowan Elementary Elemen-tary Schools were approved at a meeting of the Iron County School Board Tuesday. The plans for the expansion of the industrial arts department at Parowan High School and the addition of two new classrooms at Parowan Elementary were presented by Architect Ar-chitect John S. Rowley. After review by the board the plans were accepted and a date set for the opening of bids on the project. The bid opening date was set for Monday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Iron County School District Office. Both projects have been approved by the various state agencies and funding for the improvements at Parowan High School is through bonding authorized by the voters of the county while the additional classrooms at the elementary are being made available through critical needs funds through the State Department of Bducation. Single lid In order to get the best possible bid the two projects will be bid together to a single contractor with work to progress on both projects simultaneously, according to Dr. Clair Morris, Superintendent. The projects are expected to fall within the allowed funding that has been programmed for the capital improvements, the architect indicated. in-dicated. In other action at Tuesday's meeting the board: -approved the District portion of the road improvements near the Enoch Elementary in the amount of $35,067.61. The amount is 43 percent of the total project in the Homestead Subdivision with other property owners in the subdivision to provide the additional funding for the project totaling $81,727. Budget approval -approved a budget of the Council on Aging for Iron County as presented by Wayne Mifflin and Jennie Joseph. Total budget was in the amount of $27,234 in four separate program areas. State and local funding accounted ac-counted tor the major portion of the budget with in lieu funds to be provided through the Iron County School District and others. The board questioned the reduction in financial support of the council by Iron County which was indicated at $4,000 down from $8,000 the previous year. |
