Show Mitchell Family enjoy Reunion PAROWAN - An estimated two hundred decendents of William Cooke and Eliza Ridsdale Mitchell held a family reunion July 7th in Parowan. The reunion was under the direction of the Maude Amelia Mitchell Dalton family descendents, and began with an outdoor breakfast in Parowan Canyon near the twisted forrest area. The group then moved to the Brian Head Inn for a business meeting and a delicious lunch catered by Rex Emmenegger. The Brian Head Site was chosen because of the many years the Mitchell family operated a saw mill near there on Bear Flat. A program was presented with John C. Pendleton as master of ceremonies. A tribute to Maude Amelia and Robert Edward Dalton was read by a daughter Blanche Hammond, and a history of William Cooke Mitchell, II was read by David Grant Hansen. Rick Morrison played a musical number on the trumpet and Brenda Adams sang "Families are Forever" accompanied by her mother Vyonne Chamberlain. A quartet of Karl Clark and Albert Mitchell and Douglas Abrams sang "Let the Lower Lights Be Burning" an old family favorite and Bartlett Mitchell sang "Belle Nahone" accompanied ac-companied by his wife. A talent show was also held with many family members participating and later a tour of the Old Rock Church was enjoyed by everyone. Later in the evening the Mitchells gathered again at the "Open House" at the home of Karl and Alice Mitchell in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary and their recent return from an LDS Mission in Canada. New family officers are Karl Mitchell president, Howard Adams vice president, Mary Jane Seaman secretary, Alice Haycock treasurer and Mabel Macdonald family historian. |
