Show Dr. Haw ley Resigns from School Position "Alter serious deliberation I have decided t to leave education to go into private business, because I feel that the opportunities there are greater for me and my family." staled Dr. Jerald Ilawley, former principal of Cedar High School, in his letter of resignation dated July 5 to Iron County School District Superintendent Superin-tendent J. Clair Morris. A decision by the school board has transferred Hawley from the high school to the principalship of North Elementary School. Concerned members of the public have met with the school board to discuss the transfer. Hawley issued a response to several of the board's concerns at a news conference which was held Friday morning at Hawley's home. "I have never knowingly disobeyed the school board or the superintendent. superin-tendent. I have always followed the proper chain of command. Although my new profession will take me out of the public school system. I will not be totally leaving education," stated Hawley who plans to move to Richfield Rich-field and has accepted a position with a real estate firm which is located there. A tribute to Hawley had been organized by students and parents which included presenting their views with full page ads in local newspapers. "I have had no part in instigating the Citizen's Committee. They have asked out of concern for the educational program in Cedar City", said Hawley. "I leave education with a good feeling towards the staff, faculty and students of Cedar High School. We had created a good working relationship with mutual respect, in a growth-oriented structure," stated Hawley, |
