The trees were of the Texas variety, practically immune to frost and bear large figs. These trees should bear fruit within two years and that area intends to go into the fig raising business on a large scale. I5 years ago About 70 members of the Cedar Stake Aaronic Priesthood enjoyed a delightful two-day excursion on Lake Mead in Nevada. The group, with Theron Ashcroft, and Dr. P. K. Edmunds, left in private cars to gather at the boat docks for a boat excursion. Two boats were chartered and the group were taken 75 miles upstream to Sandy Beach, where they spent the night. On the return trip the next morning, they visited the famed Wishing Well. After the boat trip they were taken on a tour of Hoover Dam, Boulder City and Las Vegas, Nevada before returning home. Adults helping to supervise the trip were Lehi Jones, Morris Roberts, Adam Seegmiller, Marvin Jones, Leo Palmer, Bryant Petty, Ed Higbee, Oliver Slack, Alma Decker, Stanley Roberts, Arlow Farnsworth, Wm. Melling, Henry Bulloch and Elwyn Halterman. 1(1 years ago Sen. Wallace F. Bennett, introduced a bill creating a National Park out of Cedar Breaks National Monument in Iron County. At the same time, Sen. Bennett, in a speech on the senate floor, asked that greater protection be given the Bristlecone Pine tree area,l,400 acres, part of the Dixie National Forest and adjacent to the Cedar Breaks National Monument. He further stated that added emphasis be given to protect the area from vandalism and destruction. The Forest Service developed plans for access roads, barriers, trails, camp and picnic grounds, as well as signs and information in-formation programs for the protection, development and public use of the entire Cedar Breaks, Bristlecone area complex.
