Show "Citizens for Fair Power" call for public meeting Following an organization meeting, "Citizens for Fair Power" state they believe there are solutions "to this rate dilemma Cal-Pac is faced with" and urge public attendance at a meeting to be held Friday, March 18. Harry B. Leigh, president of the organization and Carl Palmer, vice president, said the meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the SUSC auditorium. They said the meeting will be held to "look at possible alternatives to the California-Pacific California-Pacific electric service in southern Utah." They said speakers from the In-termountain In-termountain Consumer Power Association, Rural Electric Assocation. the Attorney General's office and municipalities with their own power systems will be on the program. They w ill also offer question and answer periods, the organization said. "We invite you to come and participate in this meeting since it has been planned for you and we believe it will definitely affect you," they urged citizens. "We encourage mayors, city councilmen and all citizens of communities served by Cal-Pac Cal-Pac to attend for we want your opinions and ideas." "Citizens for Fair Power" also said they hope "unity of purpose and determination" deter-mination" arises to help find a viable solution to the electric utility situation in the area. "Nevertheless," they said, "we want to make it perfectly clear we support and encourage an open, thorough, and complete com-plete investigation of California-Pacific Utilities and the events that led to their establishment in southern Utah. Furthermore, Fur-thermore, we support and encourage public meetings, dissemination of literature and speakers who speak out and advance alternatives to Cal-Pac's method of doing business in southern Utah." The new citizens group said they do not accept the conclusion of high utility rates being a "fact of life" or something nothing can be done about. Much of the problem, they said, is a direct result of the public failing to get involved and keeping abreast of decisions. |
