After completing high school there, he studied V engineering at the City College of New York. Later. I ii deciding that pure technology wasn't his cup of tea. he i I V veered off toward the arts by studying architecture at i !' Cooper Union. I i ' Hirsch re-entered CCNY. after six months in the i, Army, intent upon getting a degree in the most direct i way possible. His accumulated credits made it plain , i'i that a bachelor's degree in physics would be the most y ii quickly attainable, and that's what he was awarded. Hirsch. however, had no yen to be a physicist, i , i 1 Actually, he didn't know what he wanted to become, ji X But at CCNY he had enrolled, almost by default, in a class in acting. '! ii Hirsch's first real acting job came in 1962. when he i V performed with a stock company at Estes Park. Colo. ) i', He has appeared on Broadway in 'Barefoot in the Park' i i' and the Tony Award-nominated 'Knock Knock.' His Off i j i' Broadway credits include starring roles in "A Thousand (' X Clowns.'
