Show T-iirds vs. Parsons Saturday Southern Utah State College's Col-lege's baseball team finally returns home Saturday for a double header in conference play with Westminster College. Col-lege. The T-Birds have been on the road for six games in four days. The "Parsons of Westminster are reported to be a better team than last year but exact ex-act strengths are unknown. The 'Birds must win the best of four games against the Parsons to qualify for the Rocky Mountain Conference playoffs. This past week the Thunderbirds Thun-derbirds traveled to Salt Lake City and Ogden for double headers with the University of Utah and Weber State. The 'Birds were downed in all four games; three were within one or two points. The fourth was a poor game for the T-Birds. In the first game with Utah, the SU nine were downed down-ed 4-3 which saw good pitching pitch-ing on the part of Wayne Butler and good hitting by the rest of the team. SU had five hits to Utah's four with Jon Hoover getting a double and Craig Lloyd a triple. In the second game, the Utes out scored the T-Birds 4-2 and out hit them 9-5. SU received good pitching from John Anderson and Roger Fairless and good hitting from Chuck Bowden and Hack Mitchell. Saturday in the first game against Weber State, the 'Birds were down 4-0 after three innings but rallied in the top of the fourth to even the score at 4 all. Craig Lloyd turned in a good pitching job, but one more run sneaked across to win the game for Weber, 5-4. Top hitters for the T-Birds were Mitchell, Lloyd and Ivan Otero. In the final game, the Thunderbirds did not hit well and were out scored 8-1 and out hit 8-3. Mike Clark and Curt Hale did the mound work for the 'Birds. LEADING HITTER. Val Cullimore, receiver for Southern Utah State College, is one of the bright spots on team this season. He is a junior from Bountiful Boun-tiful and one of the leading hitters this season. |
