Show City Council levies charges to initiate garbage system A $2 a month garbage collection col-lection fee to be assessed against single family dwellings dwell-ings for garbage collection was approved by the Cedar City Council in session Thursday Thurs-day evening. The assessment was the first step mad by the council coun-cil toward the development of a land-fill , garbage disposal system, according to Mayor Loren Wihetten. In other action of the city a series of bids were opened to provide materials for the coming com-ing year. Western Rock was the low bidder for the supply of blacK topping and tack coating for the street oiling program this year. The Cedar City based firm bid $6.75 per ton for mulch and 5.5 cents per square yard for tack coat. ' Mayor Whetten pointed out that the city is currently mov. ing ahead to complete last year's oiling program under terms and conditions as sot forth with property owners. The new bid will effect oiling programs for the current year. year. American bid 17.63 cents on premium gas; 15.99 cents on regular; 14.96 an diesel fuel and 14.77 cents on furnace furn-ace oil. On recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission Com-mission the council approved the extension of the Max Thorley subdivision. The additional ad-ditional portion increases the subdivision 20 lots. Council also approved the appointment of John Pensis as manager of the swimming pool for the coming season with John Nielsen naimed to : direct activities of the ballparks. ball-parks. An objection was raised at the hearing by Raymond Ray-mond Prestwich who suggested suggest-ed that the city should be pur chasing not selling recreational recreation-al properties. Improvement District Mayor Whetten reported that the Special Improvement District contract had been completed in the southeast portion of the city.
