In the latter matter Clair Benson, a former em ployee of the city was named as a plant operator to replace Frank Mortensen, who is retiring, re-tiring, according to Ralph Or-ton, Or-ton, Mayor. In addition to his operat ing a shift at the hydro-plant Benson will read the wate. and power meters in one sec- Jon or tne cay. John II. Pendleton and W. F. Burns of the city planning commission met with the City Council to discuss some changes chan-ges they feel are necessary in the city zoning ordinance, es- pecially pertaining to trailer courts. In the purchase of new equipment the council approved approv-ed the purchase of a war surplus sur-plus Ford pickup at a cost of $250. Ross Guymon, city electrician, was authorized to spend $1000 for new automatic-eye street lamps for installation instal-lation on city streets. They are similar to those on Main, Street only smaller. Also the purchase of a bank of three large power transformers transfor-mers to take care of the power leeds of the new Parowan High School was discussed, with Mr. Guymon, with the' purchase and installation to oe made prior to the completion comple-tion of the building. J Councilmen D Robinson and Morris Rasmussen were authorized auth-orized to represent Parowan City at a meeting of the Utah Water and Power Board on Wednesday to discuss a problem pro-blem at the Parowan City hydro-plant in the mouth of the Paragonah Canyon. It seems that since the construction last year of the overnight storage pond on Paragonah Creek east of that community, communi-ty, the pond is so close to the drain from the Power plant that when a full head of water wa-ter is turned (Onto the turbine, the water backs up into the wheel because of inadequate drainage. The matter of a possible correction there is to be discussed with the water and power board. i The two councilmen are al-1 so to meet with "Governor Calvin Cal-vin Rampton and Henry Holland, Hol-land, state highway department depart-ment chairman to discuss the possibility of having an on and off ramp included at the ooint where Interstate 15 intersects in-tersects the Holyoak Lane west of the city. Such an over, pass and ramp would give! the entire western portions of1 the city and 80 of the valley an opportunity to get on that highway without having to come to the one proposed in- j terchange north of the the' city. District road officials have turned thumbs down to such a request from Parowan City officials, Mayor Orton informs us. The naming of an accountant accoun-tant with a CPA to fill the post as Parowan City auditor was considered by the coun-: cil. The recent death of Chas. O. Butcherite has left the city without this assistance. Application papers for an engineering grant to come to Parowan City from the FAA through the State Aeronautics Board, were studied, and will be prepared. The grant is for engineering funds for the City Airport. |
