Show More Earnings Taxed for Social Security For those of you who are working, more earnings may be taxed for social security according to Kesler T. Powell, Provo Social Security District Manager. The most that could be taxed was $6600. This year up to $7800 may be taxed. Your covered wages or self employment earnings at the higher rate will, of course, result re-sult in a higher retirement payment under social security. The 1968 wage tax rate remains re-mains at the 4.4 percent. Self employment income tax rates also remain at 6.4 per cent for 1968. President Johnson signed many other changes into the law.
