Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR LETTER TO THE EDITOR The following letter was received re-ceived this past week by F. Jim Cox of Cedar City from his son, James A. Cox, assigned assign-ed with Army Intelligence with the First Infantry Division Div-ision at Lai Kae, Republic of Vietnam. The letter was dated Feb. 3, 68 and expresses one soldier's feelings about the war in that country. Dear Dad: Just a note to lot you know that everything is okay. They have been shelling us with mortars and rockets but have done very little damage and injured very few. As powerful as the Soviet 122mm rocket is, it's amazing that quite a few guys haven't been killed. It has slowed down a lot now We get a rocket or mortar incoming in-coming every couple of hours or so and always at meal time. (Maybe one of the geniuses gen-iuses in charge here will decide de-cide to change chowtime and avoid that. I doubt it though.) The rockets are terrorizing- you can hear them screaming in. Cut then it takes a pretty fast rocket to beat me to a bunker. Charlie picks the darndest ways of celebrating New Years. Now I've got a monot-oneous monot-oneous nine months to look forward to. Don't let McCarthy, Bobbie Kennedy or anybody else talk u.s out of being here. I don't want these fools any closer to home. I believo the people (Vietnamese) (Viet-namese) were hurt pretty bad this time but the AIWN (Army-Republic of Vietnam) really real-ly carne through fighting. In my own opinion this was a last ditch effort to gain Important Im-portant cities (including Saigon) Sai-gon) that he could use to negotiate ne-gotiate with. If we had not been bombing North Vietnam, the VC and NVA would have had enough supplies to really have done some damage. i Well, must got some other notes out. Until the next episode ep-isode of "Life from the Bottom Bot-tom of the Bunker." James A. Cox |
