Show National Engineer's Week Observance This week marks the 17th annual observance of National Engineer's Week. Traditionally, Tradition-ally, it has been established as the week containing George Washington's birthday, with respect for the fact that he, as well as being the first president of this country, was one of the first to engage in the practice of land surveying and engineering. The theme that highlights the observance of this week Is "Engineering --- for the Human Environment." Observances Ob-servances in Utah include: a banquet address by Senator Frank E. Moss at the Utah State University campus Friday. Fri-day. His address will be entitled en-titled "Engineering -- for the Human Environment." Ban-1 quets will be held on the University Uni-versity of Utah and Brigham Young Campuses, featuring prominent engineers as guest speakers. Seventeen of the larger industries in Utah have scheduled tours through their establishments; forums, seminars, sem-inars, displays and outstanding outstand-ing engineer awards will be conducted by various campuses campus-es and businesses throughout the state. Engineers have been largely responsible for creating the environment in which man finds himself today. Structures, Struc-tures, utilities, comforts and conveniences have multiplied around us. However, the solutions sol-utions to many of the problems prob-lems and environmental needs of man such as air pollution, water pollution, and water shortage, to name a few, remain re-main with us and challenge the best efforts and abilities that men can train themselves to give. |
