Police authorities indicated that rumors of marijuana in the area have been reported in the past, but the arrest this week constituted the first of that nature in the city's history. A cooperative effort of law ; enforcement agencies including includ-ing Cedar City Police, Iron County Sheriff's Office, the Utah Highway Patrol and the College of Southern Utah division divi-sion of security turned up the first major arrest in the area on norcotics Monday. Four arrests were made, one for selling and offering to sell narcotics and three counts of possession. Held on the charge of selling sell-ing and offering for sale is John Stephen Hamrick, 19, of San Bernardino, Calif. i He was brought before Justice Jus-tice of the Feaee Ilaldow E. I Christensen and bail was set at $1000. No date for the preliminary pre-liminary hearing was set pending the defendant's obtaining ob-taining proper legal council. Th0 initial arrest of Hamrick Ham-rick was made at his apartment apart-ment in Hawthorne Hall on the CSU campus. Following a tip the law enforcement officers offic-ers appeared at the appart-ment appart-ment with a search warrant. The search produced marijuana, mariju-ana, a scringe and a series of test tubes, officers said. Ham- |
