Show A Threat To Safety I" 0-' The time has come in Cedar City when something ,r needs to be done about a growing problem that of l"v motor bikes and their ever increasing numbers. ,: '" The problems of this growing menace seem to be increasing with the increase in numbers and for most .of the citizens of Cedar City it is time that something " should be done to keep these two-wheel vehicles un-I, un-I, der control. Tr', Let's look at some of the problems. .,. The motor bike or motorcycle uses the streets ' ..'and highways yet they seem to flaunt the rules and i" regulations that govern regular vehicle traffic. As '"one citizen pointed out, the motor bike brigade does '"not move with the normal flow of traffic. They dart in and out, seldom respect normal lanes of traffic and ,,M'in a goodly number of cases exceed the posted speed !';' limits. Many of the owners of motor bikes take pride in the noise they make and go to a lot of trouble, ' '"like taking the "guts" from their mufflers, to insure P,tthat they are as loud as possible. Isn't it logical that a motor bike, like an automobile, should be, by law v- required to maintain an adequate muffler. This law ii,was adopted for automobiles for the purpose of reducing re-ducing noise and avoiding a public nuisance. Motor b bike operators, ignore such regulation, it seems, and I'-' nothing is being done about it. t h What about the number of people on a motor bike? An automobile has a regulation that no more than three people can occupy the front seat of a car jin order that the driver has ample room to safely operate the vehicle. Doesn't it seem just a little ridiculous ri-diculous to have five people on a motor bike that is Vl actually built for no more than two people? And the ,,H surprising thing about this is that an entire family .can frequently be seen on these bikes including little lit-tle children under one year of age. These are just a few of the problems, and the sad fact is that those problems become the problems of others on the streets and highways as in most cases accidents with motor bikes do not occur with other motor bikes but with automobiles and trucks who have a devil of a time trying to figure out what action ac-tion a motor bike is liable to take at the next instant. Isn't it about time for our law enforcement officials offi-cials to take the bull by the horns and do something to control this growing menace? Just as they are responsible to issue tickets or take other appropriate appropri-ate action when a car is in violation of laws and regulations they have a responsibility to do the same with motoxjjike operations. Citizens hav,e. a -right to expect this protection $' and we feel that there is significant support to de-j de-j mand action to curb this problem within our city. |
