Show Representative Asks Citizens' Views On Federal Policies Rep. Sherman p. Lloyd, in his third bi-monthly report to Utah's Second Congressional District, has invited his constituents con-stituents to give him their views on alternatives to Vietnam, Viet-nam, the income tax increase, the proposed increase in Social So-cial Security, and the seating of Adam Clayton Powell. The specific alternatives, set forth in the report which was mailed to approximately 11,000 persons in the district, encompass encom-pass a broad range of choices on each issue. On Vietnam, the Utah Republican Re-publican asked for response on four alternatives ranging from all-out war to withdrawal of U. S. troops. The proposed alternatives to the tax increase were: (1) voting vot-ing against the increase regardless re-gardless of the urgency; (2) voting against the Increase, unless it appears that the country will have an inflation which would be more damaging; damag-ing; (3) voting for an increase because of the war effort and the nation's fiscal deficit, and (4) voting for, unless it appears ap-pears that spending can be cut sufficiently to justify the war-time deficit. Rep. Lloyd outlined three choices on the Social Security increase, including: (1) leaving leav-ing the benefits as they are now and lowering the tax if possible; (2) leaving the tax base schedule on the present level and making a cost-of-living adjustment of approximately approxi-mately eight per cent, and (3) increasing both the tax and the benefits as proposed by the President. On the Powell issue, Rep. Lloyd asked his constituents whether the re-election of the Harlem Democrat by 86-1 since the House first refused to seat him had changed their attitude on seating him. |
