C Mormon Mor-mon servicemen presently in Vietnam, Korea and Germany, as well as in five states, participate par-ticipate In church services conducted con-ducted by L D S Chaplains, according to Sen. Frank E. Moss, D-Utah, who requested a report from the Department of Defense regarding the current cur-rent duty assignments of these officers. Sen. Moss said that prior to 1965, Department of Defense regulation prohibited appointment appoint-ment of L D S Chaplains on generally the same ratio as the number nf TX1 men. "Senator Howard Cannon and I went to President Johnson John-son to request that this discriminatory dis-criminatory regulation be changed," Sen. Moss said. "The regulation prohibited the appointment of additional addition-al L D S Chaplains because they were not graduates of a theological seminary. At our request, President Johnson ordered or-dered that the regulation be changed, thus permitting additional ad-ditional LDS Chaplains to be placed on active duty." Two of the Mormon Chaplains Chap-lains are assigned to Vietnam. They are Capt. Wayne E. Kue-hne Kue-hne and Capt. Claude D. New-by. New-by. Capt. Arnold Tom Ellsworth Ells-worth is presently assigned to units at Uijongbu, Korea, Sen. Moss said. Three are serving in Germany. They are Capt. Aldrid M. Christensen, Lt. Col. William H. Green, Jr., and Lt. Col. Spencer D. Madsen. Col i Madsen will be assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash., about mid-August, mid-August, Sen. Moss said. The other Mormon Chap- |
