Goods 5 1 .833 Cedar Crest 4 2 .667 Record 3 3 .500 Lockhart 0 6 .000 Ron's Sporting Goods won the first half of play in the American Legion baseball program, but look out for Lockhart in the second half of play. Lockhart went winless in the first half of play but in the final week of action with Kevin Hunter doing some fine mound work the team has some changes in mind. Lockhart Lock-hart lost 4 to 3 to Ron's Sporting Sport-ing Goods in an extra inning affair to wind up the first half of play, but Monday night they took the measure of Cedar Crest, 3 to 2, also in an extra inning, to pick up their first victory and make themselves the leaders in the second half. Against Cedar Crest Kevin Hunter picked up the victory as he allowed just three runs to the Cedar Crest Team. Lockhart, likewise only got three hits, but picked up the only earned run of the game, that coming in the eighth inning inn-ing with a walk, a stolen base and a single by Frank Adams pushing in the winning win-ning tally. Ron's Sporting Goods pulled out an extra inning victory ovpp Lnrkhart in thoir final outing of the first half to win that championship, but they did it the hard way, collecting collect-ing only one hit in the game. Wade Roberts was the winning win-ning pitcher in relief of Mike Petty. Wayne Esplin suffered the loss despite picking up 17 strikeouts in the contest. Tied three all at the end of regulation play, Ron's scored the winning run on a walk, a stolen base and a passed ball to etch out the victory. In another tight game, the Iron County Record and Cedar Crest finished out their first half schedule in a well played contest that saw the Record win 3 to 2. Dale Hatch was the winning pitcher and Robert Ro-bert Smith suffered the loss. Cedar Crest outhit the Record, however, 7 to 5, but couldn't push in the runs. Record held a 2 to 0 lead at the end of five innings of play and Ce"dar Crest came back to tie it with two in the sixth. Three errors by Cedar Crest in the seventh allowed the winning tally to score giving Record the victory. |
