Show Precautions Given For Washing Good Wool Blankets The combination of warm breezes and sunshine, or an automatic dryer, makes an ideal setup for drying your lovely blankets, suggests Mar-va Mar-va Esplin, Iron County extension exten-sion agent. Many people, she said, are afraid to wash their good wool blankets, and even hesitate to buy them, for fear they will shrink if and when they are washed. Good wool blankets may be washed successfully suc-cessfully in either a conventional conven-tional or automatic washer if the following precautions are taken. Soak the blanket for 15 to 20 minutes in warm suds, tumble or agitate for no more than two minutes, spin dry, cover with the same temperature tempera-ture water in which they were washed, and soak again for approximately 15 minutes before be-fore spin drying. Lifting the blanket a few times, both in the wash and rinse water, makes the process pro-cess more effective. If hung on the line to dry, spread the blankets over two or three lines. |
