Band members came through again in the evening and presented pre-sented a fine concert on the lawn at the Third Ward chapel. cha-pel. This hasn't been done for some years but a good crowd was on hand to enjoy it. We thank the members and their director Robert Potter for this. The Parowan Dairy Freez showed its appreciation to the band by giving the members a free treat. The Rammettcs were well pleased with their efforts in sponsoring the dance which was a huge success because they worked for it Thanks to the city volunteer fire department who gave the participants in the children's section of the parade a free treat. Also to Ray Adams of the city council who was in charge of the day's activities in behalf of the city. He supported sup-ported committees, helped ii many ways and was in attendance at-tendance at all of the activities. activi-ties. We appreciated this. Let's begin with Bill Rollins Rol-lins who got the day of to a loud start with a daybreak salute. sa-lute. It was a good show, Bill. The parade this year was one of the best ever held in Parowan. It is hard to imagine the man hours which went in the beautiful floats, but the time was certainly well spent. Our thanks to Harold Mitchell for acting as marshal of the day and to the National Guard Color Guard. The PHS band was wonderful and What would a parade be without a band. Something new in the parade par-ade this year was the Ram-mette Ram-mette marching group which received much favorable comment. com-ment. I wonder how many realized re-alized that Leilani Bentley and the girls were getting up to practice at 6:30 a. m. We were thrilled with the group of Cub Scouts and Little League baseball base-ball teams who entered the line of march. It would be impossible to thank each group which made a float but let jt be known that you were appreciated. It was no easy task for judges, Lailani Bentley, Gretta Wood and Renae Halterman to select se-lect the winner but they did a fine job. The American Legion Le-gion and Auxiliary and the Second Ward Primary floats tied for first. Themes were "Freedom Is Not Free" and "Youth, Hope of the Nation". A young married women's club entered the third place float with the theme "Home is Where the Heart Is" My Special thanks to Orlene Pickett Pick-ett and Leona Dalton who assisted as-sisted with the parade. Thanks to the Legion, the Legion Auxuliary, Second and Third Wards and PHS Ag dept. for their concession stands on the park. City electrician Ross Guymon helped make these possible with special wiring. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Caldwell Cald-well presented a fun schedule of games and sports and sports for all ac;cs and ending with a tur of war tiit U you |
