Show Brian Head District To Observe Boy Scout Week Annual Boy Scout Week will be observed from Feb. 7 to 13, according to Don Cartwright, publicity member of the Brian Head Boy Scout committee. He states the the Brian Head. District will observe the occasion occa-sion with a number of special activities and events', with i Herman Adams of the district council in charge. All scouts are encouraged to wear uniforms throughout the week, particularly on Uniform Day which will be on Thurs- day, Feb. 8, and also on Sunday, Sun-day, Feb. 13. It is expected that scouts and scouters will present special programs in each of the LDS wards on Sunday, Feb. 11. Preparations are under way for public scouting displays to be placed in local business houses and public places all during the week. Residents are invited to observe these displays dis-plays to learn what the boy scouts of the area are accomplishing accomp-lishing in their troop activities. activi-ties. On Saturday, Feb. 10, a Boy Scout Skillaree will be held from 2 to 3:30 p. m. At the Skillaree boys from all troops in the district will compete in many scouting skills and demonstrations, with the public pub-lic especially invited to attend. at-tend. In another activity, scouts and cub scouts will also perform per-form a community good turn by providing color guards for the public flags during the week. In Parowan they will raise and lower the flags daily dai-ly at the Post Office, the High School, the Elementary School and the Courthouse with a special flag ceremony planned for 5 p. m. on Wednesday of the week. All members of each troop will assemble in uniform uni-form at each of the assigned flags and hold a formal retreat re-treat of the colors. The public is invited to attend at-tend and witness this ceremony cere-mony which will provide an added opportunity for us to demonstrate pride and love of flag and country, and at the same time give added incentive incen-tive to our scouts to uphold and protect those things we hold dear. Also during the week, according ac-cording to Mr. Cartwright, it is anticipated that many of the wards will hold scout banquets, these to be on a family basis, and under the direction of the troop committee commit-tee in each LDS Ward. |
