Show T-Birds Split With NSU Rebels; Set Final Games College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds split a double-header double-header Tuesday afternoon with Nevada Southern University Univer-sity and are scheduled this week end to wind up the 1968 baseball season. ' The Rebels of NSU picked up the opening game victory at the CSU park with an 8 to 1 victory over seven innings, but the T-Birds came back to win the nine inning night-cap by a 10 to 9 margin. The T-Birds committed seven sev-en errors in the opening game and gave up eight hits in allowing al-lowing the visitors to pick up the victory. Lundquist of the Rebels went the distance for the mound victory giving up four hits and was backed up by his teammates with errorless error-less ball. The second game was an unusual contest with bunched scoring by both clubs. The T-Birds T-Birds jumped on starter Fi-dera Fi-dera for nine runs in the first inning of play and held a 9-0 lead through the first five innings. NSU came back in the sixth to pound a tiring starter Wynn Isom and wound up with eight runs in the frame. They added another run in the seventh against reliefer re-liefer Charles Norton to tie the score at 9-all. In the bottom of the ninth inning the T-Birds pushed , in the winning run. Doug Wol- tres walked, stole second Dase then scored on a sharp single by first sacker Jewkes. Four more home games are on the docket for the T-Birds this week end to wind up the season. Friday afternoon CSU will tangle with the Parsons of Westeminster and Saturday a double-header is scheduled against the Brigham Young University freshmen. Games both days are slated to begin at 1 p. m. |
