We therefore continue our battle against birth defects de-fects to give all American I children a better chance to be well born," the leaders of the 1968 March of Dimes campaign said in announcing the annual I drive. "To do this, we need to do a better job in prenatal care and the care of premature infants," in-fants," declared Chamberlain. "Every year 250,000 of our children are born with birth defects. Birth defects affect the daily lives of 15,000,000 children and adults." The March of Dimes supports sup-ports nearly 100 Birth Defects Research and Treatment Centers Cent-ers throughout the country including in-cluding one in Salt Lake City. Each Center brings the combined com-bined skills of teams of medical med-ical experts to bear on the complex birth defects problem. This year, he indicated, the emphasis is being placed on education as the National Foundation attempts to inform the public of the programs being undertaken. Emphasis is also being placed on the fight against birth defects and workers in Cedar City, have had the opportunity op-portunity at a kickoff meeting this past week to view a film prepared on the Utah Birth Defects Center in Salt Lake City and the work that is being be-ing accomplished there. The film is being used extensively ex-tensively in the area. It is be-I be-I ing shown in the schools, at I the College and at most of the service organizations of the community, Royce Chamberlain, Cham-berlain, Iron County general chairman stated. j |
