Fitness Program in Elementary School i At the beginning of the : school year, boys and girls in grades two through sixth were tested by a series of fitness tests devised by the American Association for Health, Physical Phy-sical Education and Recreation. Recrea-tion. Those tests measure pull-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, shuttle run, standing broad jump, 50-yard dash, softball throw and the 600-yard run-walk. Each student stu-dent has a challenge to improve im-prove test scores with the competition existing only with himself. Each class is involved in a vigorous physical activity period per-iod three times each week. Parts of this activity centers around circuit calisthenics which are designed to improve im-prove and promote strength, coordination, agility and endurance. en-durance. At the Parowan Elementary, Ele-mentary, physical education has become an equal partner in the curriculum. |
