Show Mendez Concert Set for Saturday Evening L fid RAFAEL MENDEZ All Is in readiness for the appearance ap-pearance of Rafael Mendez, world famous trumpeter to appear ap-pear in concert with the Cedar City High School band Saturday evening, Jan. 19 at 8:15 p. m. at the College of Southern Utah. "I have never conducted a better bet-ter band," director Eugene llel-land llel-land stated this week and he indicated in-dicated that he was looking forward for-ward to a truly outstanding concert. con-cert. In addition to the concert the world famous artist will conduct a clinic Saturday afternoon at the high school for trumpet players play-ers of junior high, high school and college bands. Many students stu-dents from throughout southern Utah will attend this clinic. Mendez has acquired fame through nearly every media available to him. He has recorded, record-ed, appeared In several motion pictures, on the radio, in concert with some of the outstanding symphony orchestras, of the world, television, tours and has conducted several hundred fine bands and orchestras in high schools, college and universities throughout the United otates Canada, Alaska and Mexico. The band will onen with "Proud Heritage" by William P. Lath-am Lath-am and will play the overture. "Morning, Noon and Night" by Frantz Von Suppe, arranged by Henry Fillmore. Other band numbers will Include In-clude "Paslm for Band." by Vln-cent Vln-cent Perslchettl; "Commando March" by Samuel Barber; "Mar-Icalbo". "Mar-Icalbo". by John J. Morrlssey; "A Begulne" and "Holiday for Winds", by Glen Osser, which will be directed by student director dir-ector Ken Jones. |
