Show John Cdvin Slack j Dies, Services Held John Calvin Slack, 55, of Cedar ! City died at his home early 1 Friday morning Aug. 25 of a heart ailment. Services were con- 1 ducted Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the i Cedar Tenth Ward Conducting the services was i Bp. Elwyn Halterman. j Prayer at the mortuary prior i to the services was by Jay Thor- ley and the Invocation was by i Allen Bauer. Lorraine Condie gave the benediction at the ser- i vices and the didcatory prayer at the Cedar City cemetary was i by Chessley Allred. Speakers included Harry Lunt i and Jim Heywood with a tribute j by George Manning. Bp. Halter- i man also gave brief remarks. j Musical numbers were render- i ed by Forest Hunter, Laurel Smith Matheson and by Mrs. j June Tnoriey. ! Pall bearers were Dean Hey- i borne and Dan Curtis, son-in- law's of Mr. Slack and Bob, Jer- 1 ry, Gordon and Stanley Slack, all nephews. j Mr. Slack was born on March i 24, 1906 at Toquerville, a son J of Vernon and Encora Allen Slack. He married Mae Wright 1 of Hurricane on December 23, 1929 and the marriage was later j solemnized in the St. George , Temple. Mr. Slack left Toquerville in ( 1923 and has lived in Cedar City since that time. He started , working with livestock and farm- Ing when he moved to Cedar i City and in 1939 he worked for the Utah State Road Commission. Following 10 years with the ! state road department where he became district foreman, he took i over as suprintendent of the Ce- dar City Street Department. He i later left that position and went to work for the Cedar City Wat- i er Department. For the past two years he has i again been working with live- J stock and was engaged in that i work at the time of his death. He Is survived by his widow; i six children. Mrs. Dean (Flor- ence) Heyborne, Cedar City; i Mrs. Dan (Correen) Curtis, Mur- j ry; Devon, Albany, Ore; Dell, j Morris, Hal and Merlin, all of , Cedar City; Franklin, with the j Air Force In Wichita Falls, Tex.; , two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Ada) j Berry and Mrs. Ernest (Viola) , Bauer, both of Cedar City; four j brothers, Vern, Fred, Ed and , Morgan all of Cedar City and 12 grandchildren. i |
