Show Livestock Show Pavilion Awaits Exhibitors Improvements at the Livestock Show Pavilion of the Southwest Livestock Show Association have been compelcted this past week to put the facilities in tiptop shape for the twenty-first annual an-nual livestock show to be held in Cedar City September 7, 8 nd 9. At the livestock pavilion located locat-ed north on Highway 91 in Cedar City extensive work was completed with the installation of a sidewlk around the exterior exter-ior ,of the building and the pouring pour-ing of a concrete floor in half of the building. The Southwest Livestock Show is one of the most popular of the entire area for 4-H Club and FFA exhibitors and annually the show brings, through auction sales on the concluding day, some of the top prices in the area for fat stock. Last year the Grand Champion fat lamb of the show, exhibited by Craig Larson of Ephraim brought a price of $1.50 per pound from the Utah Poultry and Farmers Co-op of Cedar City. In the fat steer division Lin's AG Super Market paid 75 cents per pound for the grand champion cham-pion fat steer exhibited by Reggie Reg-gie Hansen of Delta. The animal weighed 939 pounds, bringing a total price of $704.25. Ronald Halterman of LaVer-kin LaVer-kin exhibited the grand champion cham-pion fat hog which brought 30 cents per pound from the purchaser, pur-chaser, Rfed Bradshaw of Brad-shaw Brad-shaw Firestone in Cedar City. In addition to fat stock brought in by the junior exhibitors exhibit-ors a special Ram Sale is also conducted in connection with the show and some of the top breeders of the area consign animals for the sale. There is also a number of contests con-tests for the Junior ehibitors and a special exhibitors award banquet ban-quet is staged for the presentation presenta-tion of ribbons and trophies In the various fields. Also the livestock portion of the Iron County Fair, for Iron County exhibitors, Is conducted in connection with the show with the premium money paid to the top entries in this division of the annual event. Entries have been received by officials of the shojfr for the September event and indications arc that the show will be anotner top show this year. All animals will arrive in Cedar Ce-dar City on September 6 and judging will begin on Thursday, Thurs-day, Sept. 7. On Sept. 8 various contest will be staged and the Ram Sale will be held during the afternoon. Fat stock auction sale begins Saturday at 10 a. m. and the three-day event will be concluded conclud-ed when the final animal crosses the auction block. Officers of this year's show include Cleo WooH, president; Lewis Webster, manager, Eldon Schmutz, assistant manager, and Neil K. Boyter, secretary and treasurer. |
