Show Guard Returns Home from Successful Camp Citizen soldiers of the Utah National Guard returned to their homes Sunday after an eventful two-weeks encampment at Camp W. G. Williams at Jordan Nar-rows. Nar-rows. The convoy of Iron County guardsmen left Williams Sunday Sun-day after cleaning up camp on Saturday and receiving the pay-roll pay-roll in the amount of $9,000. This is for the 100 officers and men of Headquarters and Headquarters Headquar-ters Battery of the 213th Field Artillery Battalion, located in Cedar City. Battalion payroll of nearly $35,000 was made for the 213th including 405 officers and men. Lt. Col. Max Dalley, battalion commander, indicated that the camp was most successful with emphasis this year on unit rather rath-er than individual training. The 213th again proved to be effective effect-ive in its problems firing this year a total of 350 rounds of eight inch ammunition. Mission of the camp was to bring together the various bat. terles who have trained on an Individual basis throughout the year and measure their tactical effect In the field operating as a battalion unit, Dalley said. Th 21.1th which comprises, in addition to the headquarters unit In Cedar City, three firing batteries located in St. George, Fillmore and Richfield, and ser-vice ser-vice battery in Beaver, fulfilled an effective mission under field problems as set up by XI Corps Artillery, headquarters in Salt Lake City. Weather hampered the guards-men guards-men throughout the first week of exercises with rain cn six of the seven days. The second and final week of the encampment, however, they basked in sunshine sun-shine to round out another outstanding out-standing camp. |
