Show WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH OTHER CAUSES OF RELIGIOUS DIVISION ! -, By BOB REYNOLDS Last week we began a study of the causes of division in the religious world. This week we continue that study. Human creeds and confessions of faith are a factor in religious division. They are the embodiment of the doctrines doc-trines of men. Of course, not everything taught in such creeds is error, but that they contain much error is evident evi-dent when we observe that no two of them are alike and that most of them are contradictory. Human creeds crys-talize crys-talize false doctrines and stand as great barriers to religious relig-ious unity. No denomination will accept, without alteration, altera-tion, the creed of another. But if each religious body will surrender its creed and unite with Christ upon the one source of authority recognized by all, the Bible, a great stride toward unity will have been made. Denominational names are still another cause of religious relig-ious division. Initially most such names were used for the purpose of distinguishing one sect from another, but to many these human names have become so sacred that they are held in higher esteem than the name Chrisitian. But no single denominational title will ever by accepted by all striving to follow Christ. If unity is ever to be attained, at-tained, these names must be forgotten. Finally, religious division is caused by denominational denomination-al organization. This has already been suggested by the mention of denominational creeds and names. Not only are the creeds and names opposed to Christian unity, but the religious bodies of which they are a part are also a barrier. Some have suggested that all denominations might combine their forces into a gigantic denomination, with each body maintaining its distinctive creed and name. This would be union, but not unity. Unity implies a likeness like-ness of thinking and action which could not be true with the above plan. The hard, cold fact remains that unity can never be attained until the whole denominational system, sys-tem, with its various organizations which have been responsible re-sponsible for perpetuating division, has been destroyed.
