Show Youth Council Hears Statistical Report Of Juvenile Problems A statistical report of juvenile problems in the Fifth Judicial District Court during 1964 was presented to members of the Cedar Ce-dar City Youth Council, according to Elwood Corry, chaiman. The report was presented by Ervin Peterson, juvenile officer of the district which comprises the four county area of Beaver, Iron, Washington and Kane. His report indicated that 607 delinquencies, 149 judicial, 677 traffic and 34 adult contributing cases were handled. Detention In Iron County ' He reported that for the seven month period from June 1 to January Jan-uary 1 the Iron County Detention unit alone had handled 152 traffic traf-fic cases, 15 minor thefts, 58 delinquencies, de-linquencies, 7 fish and game, 8 dyer acts, .59 runaways, 7 burglaries, bur-glaries, 8 illegal possessions, 6 contribution cases and 15 malicious mali-cious mischiefs. These were cases picked up or apprehended in Iron County and did not necessarily Involve Iron County youths. He reported that 83 percent of the stolen cars picked pick-ed up in Utah, are picked up in the Beaver, Iron and Washington rYuintv aroaa. H alan reported that Cedar City has a growing problem with shop lifting and pointed out that only a small percentage per-centage of these cases are ever reported. The cooperation of the merchants and citizens is needed on the problem. The thefts, he said, should be reported to the local police, but where Juveniles are involved they should also be referred to the juvenile court Chairman Reports Chairman Corry briefly covered cover-ed a report on a study made by a subcommittee of the Utah prevention pre-vention Center dealing with the prevention of and control of juvenile ju-venile delinquency. Ethel Farnsworth reported that Father Harmon was submitting his resignation to the Youth Council owing to the fact that he is moving to California. Byron Hazeltlne submitted his resignation to the Youth Council. Coun-cil.
