Show Funeral Services Held for Alvin A. Benson, 75 Funeral services for Alvin A. (Allle) Benson, 75, former Paro-wan Paro-wan resident, were held In the Third Ward chapel here on Tuesday Tues-day afternoon at 2. Mr. Benson died suddenly at his home In Montebello, Calif. Friday morn-Ing morn-Ing of a coronary occlusion. Mr. and Mrs. Benson had spent a month this summer In Parowan and other Utah cities, visiting with relatives. Conducting the services was Bishop Adams, and speakers were Barbara M. Adams who gave a sketch of the deceased's life and read sentiments written writ-ten by his sister, Flossie Shiner; and Myron Jones, Enoch. Bishop Alma Banks, Lynndyl, offered the prayer at the home, the invocation was by Joseph E. Ward, benediction by David A. Matheson and the grave in the local cemetery was dedicated by . W. Clair Rowley. ', The opening song, "The Lord Is My Shepherd," and the closing one, "Sometime We'll Understand," Under-stand," were by a double mixed quartet consisting of Harold and Karl Mitchell, Rodney and Robert Rob-ert Rowley, Bertrude Mitchell, Ola Robinson, Berta Burton and Shirley Mercer. They were accompanied accom-panied by Itha Mortensen, who also played prelude and post-lude post-lude music. Other musical numbers num-bers were a vocal solo, "The Lord's Prayer," by Claire Dale Terry, accompanied by Ramona Stubbs, and an organ solo, "Ne-phite "Ne-phite Lamantation," by Barbara Jane Bayles. Pallbearers were three sons, Wm, Carl and Owen, two nephews, neph-ews, Roy and Bernarr Stubbs. and a brother-in-law, Clancy Tinkler. Tink-ler. Mr. Benson was born here on Aug. 24, 1882. a son of Alvin and Elizabeth Orton Pnson. He married Dottie Stubbs April 4, 1905 and they resided here until un-til 1919 when they moved to Delta and then Lynndyl, Millard County before moving to southern south-ern California about 20 years ago. He was a retired railroad worker. He is survived by his widow of Montebello, four sons and one daughter. Frank, Los Angeles; Owen, Montebello; William S.. Whittier, Calif.; Carl. Lynndyl, and Mrs. Max (May) Middleton. Whittier, Calif. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, a greatgrandchild, great-grandchild, a brother, Clifford, Toppenlsh .Wash., and three sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Flossie Shiner, American Ameri-can Fork; Mrs. Jane Richards and Mrs. Roberta Rowley, Parowan. |
