Show I What's Happening Escalante Valley I Georgia H. Moyle LIONS CLUB A large group of people en-Joyed en-Joyed a fun-filled evening of dancing at the Escalante Valley Community Building Saturday night, Feb. 2. Music for the evening eve-ning was furnished by the Herb Knell orchestra. According to dance chairman Jack Moyle, the Lions club sponsored dance netted net-ted $71.73 for the 19C3 March of Dimes drive. The Escalante Valley Lions greatly appreciate the support given by the surrounding communities com-munities at this activity. There were couples in attendance from Cedar City and St. George as well as from all of the communities of the Escalante Valley area. According to Lion president Gene Butler, good progress is being made on the installation uf acoustical tile on the ceiling of the community building. The project, undertaken by the Lions Club, Is approximately 50 percent per-cent complete at this time due to many night of work spent by a number of faithful members. WOMEN'S CLUB The January meeting of the Escalante Valley Women's club was held at the home of Mr.. Miriam McGary with Edith Force and Diane Cox of Modena as hostesses. Club was brought to order r.J conducted by president Edith Force. Old and new business was taken care of with the clubs newest project being that of purchasing pur-chasing table linen to be used at the Community Building. The remainder re-mainder of club time was spent enjoying games, after which delicious de-licious refreshments were served by Mrs. Force and Mrs. Cox. Ladies attending from New Castle were Marion Woolsey and Georgia Harrison. Prizes for the evening were won by Betty Bracken, Marie Phelps, Juanita Butler and Georgia Harrison. Doris Pedersen von the door prize which was furnished by Mrs. Alene Smith. February Club will be held at the Jack Moyle home with Pat and Georgia Moyle as hostesses on Thursday, Feb. 21 A very lovely quilt was made by the Ladies of Modena and sold at the Lions Club dance at the Esca'ante Valley Saturday night, Feb. 2. The preparing and selling of this quilt was sponsored by the community of Modena as a polio fund project and brought in $60.15 for this cause which will be turned to the Iron County Polio committee. Mr. and Mrs. James Cox of Modena were the lucky couple who won the quilt. HOME CN LEAVE Wayne Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry V. Robinson of the Escalante Valley, spent the past week at home on leave. Wayne was on leave from the Navy and returned to Las Vegas Sunday with his father, who is working In that vicinity. Wayne will fly from Las Vegas to San Diego where he will Join his company. com-pany. He expects that it will be eight months before he will be home again. HERE AND THERE Truce Truman of Las Vegas spent the week end with his grandparents, the Alfred Forces of Modena. Truce enjoyed an evening of fun with friends at the dance held Saturday night at the Escalante Valley. Mrs. Grant Snow of Delta, her daughter Glenda anr! granddaughter grand-daughter of Salt Lake City, spent a day or so at the H. Wayne i'olt home. Mrs. Snow is Mrs. Holt's mother and Glenda a sister. sis-ter. Boyd Clark Is at the Dixie Memorial Me-morial Hospital at St. George where he has been for sometime due to sickness. Mrs. Clark and children are staying at St. George to be near Boyd. The Gardner Brothers, Malan, Melvin and Edward were home over the week end from Las Vegas where they are presently tmployed. George, Jack and Pat Moyle spent some time in Salt Lake City this past week. George and Jack attend a diesel school. A number of residents of the Escalante Valley attended the Gold and Green Ball at Enterprise Enter-prise Saturday, Feb. 2, also a Uvada Stake Geneology Meeting at the Enterprise Chapel Sunday evening, Feb. 3. Mrs. Neal Bracken and Mrs. Donald Horsley attended funeral services the first of last week at Mesquite. Nev., for an aunt, Mrs. Emma Abbott. |
