Show Cedar City Citizens Give Overwhelming Support To Airport Bond Issue In Tuesday Balloting 1315 Cast Ballots Giving Eight To One Majority to City Proposal Cedar City Council1 was given an overwhelming vote of approval appro-val Tuesday by property owners in a bond election for improvements improve-ments at the municipal airport A total of 1315 votes were cast in the election, estimated at better bet-ter than 50 percent of the eligible eligi-ble voters and it was better than an 8 to 1 victory in favor of the issue. A total of 1176 votes were cast "for" the bonding proposition with only 139 votes cast "against" bonding. The proposition asked for the right to issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $100,000 for the proposed improvements which include realignment and extension of the north-south runway run-way and other improvements. The money is the city's portion of the approximately $500,000 project that has already received approval and allocations of funds from the Federal Aviation Agency Agen-cy and the Utah Aeronautical Commission. A total of 3C2 taxpayers in this area voted, divided 319 for and 43 against The remaining 10 district, including in-cluding all of Cedar City West of Main Street, voted at the CSU Fieldhouse foyer. A total vote of 953 was recorded in this section with 857 in favor of the issue and 96 against. Following the election, which gave the City Council a complete vote of confidence in the project, Mayor Kumen Gardner extended his thanks to the citizens for their support. "I and the members of the City Council express our appreciation to all who so ably contributed to the success of the Airport Bond issue," Mayor Gardner stated. "We apreciate the Interest and support of the clubs and organizations, organ-izations, also all the citizens of the city. The unusually high vote along with the almost unanimous un-animous approval of the bonding program gives us more courage to get this project underway with speed and dispatch," he declared. de-clared. Much of the preliminary engineering en-gineering work has already been completed in process of presentation presenta-tion of the project to the FAA.
