Show State Liquor Store Proposed for Parowan Mayor Howard Joseph reported to the city council at its meeting on Tuesday night that the U'ah State Liquor Control Commission i contemplating the installation of a s'ate liquor store in Parowan in the near future. He stated that Al'nn !. Johnson, John-son, member of the liquor commission, com-mission, had contacted him ove iay last week, and had informed him that in all probability the package agency would be installed install-ed In Parowan wi'hin six weeks. Johnson further stated that the aeencv was to be established here to do away wi'h the traffic menace caused by Parowan residents resi-dents going to neighboring fit-ties fit-ties to obtain their liquor supply. sup-ply. Mayor Joseph reported that Mr. Johnson had told him that the action was being taken on the recommendation and with the approval of Governor George D. Clyde and that he hoped that Parowan city officials would approve ap-prove of the action in installing the store here, but went on to say that whether or not the city-officials city-officials sanctioned the opening of the store in their community, it will be opened anyway. Mayor Joseph didn't ask the council to express themselves on the matter at that meeting but city atorney Robert L. Gardner was asked to investigate the statutes sta-tutes and determine if the liquor commission can es'abllsh a store in the city against the wishes of the officials and citizens. Mr. Gardner is to report his findings to the next meeting of the council, coun-cil, at which time that body will take action as it sees fit on the matter. |
