Eccles )f Salt Lake City tarried his campaign cam-paign for the Republican nom- nation to the United States Senate Sen-ate into Cedar City early this week. The former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board will seek the Republican nomination in the Primary election on Sept. 9, opposing Senator Arthur V. Wat-kins, Wat-kins, who is seeking the nomination nomina-tion for re-election to the senate. The Salt Lake City banker and businessman spent Monday in Cedar City conferring with party leaders and meeting with many friends here. He was speaker at the meeting of the Lions club at noon and the meeting meet-ing of the Kiwanis club Monday Mon-day evening. Mr. Eccles, who has been at war with Pres. Harry S. Truman for some seven years, charged the administration with "growing "grow-ing waste, corruption, bureaucracy bureau-cracy and socialism that have added unprecedented burden upon up-on the shoulders of the people." He said Mr. Truman and his administration had "failed to defend de-fend and protect the purchasing power of the dollar." The Truman Tru-man foreign policy he indicted for "losing the peace after this nation spent hundreds of billions at dollars and sacrificed it? men and irreplaceable materials to win the war." The candidate declared that the "backward looking machine" must be replaced by "forward looking representatives of all the people." |
