Show Desert Experimental Range Tour Set by Forest Service The annual field day and range tour of the Desert Experimental Experi-mental Range west of Milford will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Announcement of plans for the annual event was made by Reed W, Bailey, director of the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Forest and Range Experiment Ex-periment station for the Forest Service. Special invitations to participate partici-pate are extended to all stockmen, stock-men, range land owners and administrators. ad-ministrators. Participants are invited in-vited to assemble in their cars at Milford from where the tour will begin at 8 a. m. The experimental experi-mental range is 50 miles west of Milford on highway U-21. The results of 18 years of experimental ex-perimental studies on winter range lands of the Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain region will be demonstrated. In these studies different systems sys-tems of range management have been tested both with sheep and cattle. Production of desirable and undesirable forage plants in range pastures and in full-sized herd allotments under various grazing treatments will be described de-scribed by Selar S. Hutchings, in charge of the desert range experimental ex-perimental work. Grazing prac-tices prac-tices and the results of management manage-ment on the open range will be described by district grazier J. Pratt Allred of the Bureau of Land Management. Opportunities Opportuni-ties will also be afforded to inspect in-spect reseeded areas and enclos-ures. enclos-ures. The field day is sponsored jointly by the Intermountain Forest For-est and Range Experiment station, sta-tion, the Bureau of Land Management, Man-agement, the Utah Extension service, ser-vice, and the Utah section of the American Society of Range Management. Man-agement. Other speakers will include in-clude Dr. Carl Frischknecht, director di-rector of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station. H. Byron Mock, regional administrator of the Bureau of Land Management; Manage-ment; Dr. Dee A. Broadbent of the Utah State Agricultural college, col-lege, and Messrs. George C, VVil-liam VVil-liam D., and Alvin Jackson, collaborators col-laborators in the experimental studies. A stop will be made at the experimental ex-perimental range headquarters for lunch, after which the Utah Section of the Society of Range Management will conduct a short meeting. Soft drinks and coffee will be served, but visitors are requested to bring lunches. The day's program will be concluded con-cluded at 4:30 p. m. |
