Show B. A. C. Makes Good Showing In Western States Tournament The Branch Agricultural College basketball team proved once again that it is the class of the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain region by finishing higher high-er in the Western States College Basketball Tournament at Comp-ton, Comp-ton, California, than any team in the intermountaln area. The Broncos Bron-cos were defeated Friday night by Van Port College of Portland Oregon, Ore-gon, for the consolation championship, champion-ship, and earned eighth place in the tournament. The score In the consolaUon championship game was 65 to 59, but the Van Port team won only after a stiff battle In which the Broncos were very much in the game throughout. Both teams were playing their second game of the day and were extremely tired, a fact that gave the taller team from Oregon a decided advantage. The shorter B. A. C. players just didn't have the reserve strength left to take the ball off the bank boards against players as tall as 6 foot 6 Inches. After having lost to Clark College of Washington by a score of 06 to 60 In the opening round, the Broncos came back to take the measure of Amarlllo, Texas, by a score of 67 to 61, and in the third round of play they trimmed Pueblo, Colorado, by a score of 69 to 57, In an overtime game. The score at the end of the regular playing time was tied at 55-55, and In the extra five minutes the Broncos scored 14 points while holding the Colorado team to one field goal. Dixie and Ricks College of Idaho won their first night games, but were defeated in the next two encounters en-counters and were eliminated from further competition, while the Weber Web-er Wildcats were defeated in both of its games and was eliminated on the second day. Compton College won the championship cham-pionship by defeating Phoenix, Arizona, Ar-izona, in an overtime contest in the final game. The loss put Phoenix Phoe-nix in second place, with the remaining re-maining six places going to the following fol-lowing teams: Sacramento, third; Clark, fourth; Van Port, fifth; Grant, Sixth; Pasadena, seventh, and B. A. C, eighth. Teams that participated but did not place, included in-cluded Weber, Wentworth, Vlsalla, Amarlllo, McNeese, Lo., Dixie, Ricks and Pueblo. The sixteen teams in the tournament tourna-ment were considered the best Junior college teams in the entire country, and the Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural College made a remarkably good showing and the Broncos were among the most popular in the meet.
