Show SCHOOL NEWS ELEMEIff ARY On Monday aftrnoon Principal Princi-pal and Mrs. Oscar J. Hulet gave a "Christmas Card" party to the teachers of the elementary school, the office force, the custodians and the Primary Supervisor Mary McMillan. Superintendent Ian thus Wright was unable to attend. at-tend. Mr. Hulet explained that in order or-der to save postage he and Mrs. Hulet had decided to have us "pick up" our Christmas cards. "The Christmas Cards", proved to be a most delightful chicken dinner, with hot rolls, decorated individual cakes, ice cream and all the "trimmins". Like the many ma-ny other parties that Mr. and Mrs. Hulet have given the teachers, teach-ers, it was a real treat. Mrs. Christie Bradshaw, her daughter Marion and her son Gail delighted the guests with two lovely musical numbers. The "high point" of the party was when Mr. Hulet proudly brought In his attractive small grand daughter, Christine, and I presented her to the teachers. Christine is three months old and I Is the Hulet's only grandchild. Last week and this week the .Second, Third and Fourth grades 'have gathered around the Christ-: Christ-: mas Tree in the lower hall, the first thing each morning to sing Christmas carols. It is a lovely sight to see these children and to listen to these beautiful songs sung In the sweet childish voices. The school has been saddened by the death of lovely little Jacqueline Jac-queline Baldwin. "Jackie" was known for her gentleness and daintiness and her sweet disposition. dispo-sition. She was a general favorite and we all miss her very much. . . Tuesday at 3:30, three of the .rooms gave a very fine Christ-mas Christ-mas radio program over KSUB. One hundred thirty-five children from Morris Buhanan's Mrs. Claudia Forsythe's and Mrs. Gwen Stucki's rooms were, heard singing the lovely carols. Mr. , Buhanan conducted . and Mrs. Stucki accompanied them on the piano. The introduction was by Principal Oscar J. Hulet. and the program was under the direction di-rection of Eva Buys Schmutz. Every room looks a little like a "Santa Claus shop". The children child-ren are making so many gifts for dear ones.. Each room is beautifully beau-tifully decorated and each- has a well trimmed Christmas tree. The teachers and the children i are thanking Mr. R. F. Beatty ; and Melbourne Williams for the fine trees. They took the time and trouble to go and get the trees for all the rooms. JUNIOR HIGH Wednesday marked the opening open-ing of the holiday season for the students in our city schools. The Junior high school student body was given a treat by Mr. Row-berry Row-berry during the afternoon. Everyone Ev-eryone in our school went down to the Parks theatre to sec the show "Angel on Amazon". After Af-ter the show the students were given a Christmas treat by the school. 8 The past week the school has been visited by the real holiday spirit. All of the rooms have been beautifully decorated by the boys and girls in each homeroom. As a part of the Christmas program for the school, Mrs. Bell's home room presented a very entertaining entertain-ing Christmas assembly. They put on "Song for Santa" with costumes, decorations and all. Everyone was delighted with it. In each room also could be found a "money can" in which the boys and girls put their extra ex-tra pennies and nickels with which the school is sending gifts to all our students who are ill or who are less fortunate than the rest of us. This is part of tho effort to instill in the hearts of our students the real spirit of giving, rather than that of receiving. re-ceiving. The results have been very rewarding. The whole student stu-dent body and faculty are very pleased with the enthusiastic response. re-sponse. The art class, under the direction' direc-tion' of Miss Andrus, has made some very clever Christmas cards that the school is planning to send to those who are ill, who are not able to enjoy the Christmas Christ-mas show with the rest of the school, those in town who have been especially thoughtful and cooperative with the school and its progress, and others whose help we surely appreciate. 3? w w We of the Junior high school wish to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone in this town and surrounding communities, communi-ties, a Very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. HIGH SCHOOL Various classes at the high school are making Christmas gifts. The Home Economics classes clas-ses taught by Mrs. Marie Krue-gar Krue-gar arc making such gifts as doll dresses, aprons, little girls dresses, and houseshoes. Miss Dawn Andrus' Art department de-partment is making such gifts as plaster wall plaques, hand-painted hand-painted ties, textel paintings, pot holders, stencil work, and wall hangings. The high school orchestra, under un-der the direction of A. B. Larson, will give the next high school radio broadcast January 6, 1949, at 3:30 o'clock over radio station KSUB. The girls physical education classes, taught by Miss Jean Mcintosh, Mc-intosh, began Creative dancing last week. Even though some of the girls go around school as if they were exhausted, we think the Dance Review will be Investing Inv-esting to everyone. |
