Show Pioneer Southern Utah Woman Dies Suddenly Mrs. Sarah May Thornton Cox Piatt, 75, pioneer southern Utah resident, died suddenly at her home Thursday, December 23 of a heart attack. She had apparently appar-ently been In good health but collapsed suddenly at her apartment apart-ment Thursday morning. Funeral Funer-al services were conducted Saturday Sat-urday afternoon in the First ward chapel with Parson U. Webster - presiding. Mrs. Piatt was born at Pinto on May 1, 1S73, a daughter of Amos G. and Sarah May Whit-tack Whit-tack Thornton. She was married to Joseph D. Cox on December 15, 1891 in the St. George temple. tem-ple. The couple resided at Newcastle New-castle prior to moving to Cedar City 35 years ago. Mr. Cox died in 1932, and in 1937 she was married to Thomas Piatt of Brant, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Piatt had always been an active church worker, both in Newcastle and Cedar City. She is survived by her husband hus-band of Brant, and by six sons and daughters, Joseph Ray Cox, Ogden; Dec T. Cox, Provo; Oliver G. Cox, Salt Lake City; Anthon C. Cox, Cedar City; Mrs. Jennie C. Jones, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Lola C. Dalton, Delta. Also surviving sur-viving are four brothers and sisters, sis-ters, J. W. Thornton aivd Mrs. Hattie Snow, Provo; Ted Thornton, Thorn-ton, Delta, and Mrs. Addie Duf-fin, Duf-fin, Blackfoot, Idaho; 20 grand children, and six great-grandchildren. Speakers at the services were George W. Grimshaw and Frank B. Wood, and sentiments were read by Mrs. Francell Corry. Invocation In-vocation was by Duane Mat he-son, he-son, benediction by E. B. Dal ley, and the dedicatory prayer was by Samuel B. Jones. Organ music was provided by Miss Audrey Dotson, and members mem-bers of the First ward choir, including Gene Thompson, Emma Em-ma Lou Warren, Lois McConnell. Bee Roberts, Ray Cosslett, Myles Walker, C. W. Macfarlane and E. B. Dalley, sang "Oh My Father", and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". The musical program also included a vocal solo by Myles Walker ami a violin solo by Roy L. Halversen. |
