Show LOCAL BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE ANNOUNCE SPRING CLEANUP PLANS Spring is officially here, and In line with the calendar come plans for the annual spring clean-up drive. Urle, City Beau-tiflcatlon Beau-tiflcatlon chairman, asked Muylln Maxfield of the Junior Chamber of Commerce to meet with the Beau-tiflcatlon Beau-tiflcatlon committee last Friday to discuss Joint plans for the cleanup clean-up campaign. Mr. Maxfield, Junior Chamber member in charge of the clean-up drive, reported that the final day of clean-up activities wiy fall on May 5. On this day, trucks and volunteer vol-unteer workers will cover the city to pick up debris that .has been placed on curbs for collection. Although Al-though the Junior Chamber Is sponsoring spon-soring the program, they want the residents of Cedar to realize that the actual work of cleaning up is the responsibility of each man and woman in the city. Junior Chamber men can not go back Into lots to dig out rubbish; only that placed on the curb for disposal will be taken. ta-ken. Thcrefor property owners are asked to start now the Job of tidying tidy-ing up their yards so that the morning morn-ing of May 5 will find everything In order. It was decided that civic and service clubs should again be asked to share the responsibility of carrying carry-ing out the clean up program. The Chamber of Commerce has been assigned the cleaning up of the business bus-iness section, the Lions club the North and South entrances to the city, and the Rotary club the East-West East-West entrances. Removal of eyesores eye-sores such as old fences and unused un-used buildings will be under the supervision of the Elks club. Each business house In Cedar City is being asked to furnish a man and some equipment to aid In collec tion and Inspection on May 5. Mr. Urle has further suggested that periodic per-iodic checks be made throughout the year by the various groups held responsible to see that the state of order Is maintained. As a result of the meeting between representatives of the City Beau- tiflcatlon committee, the Field Board, the City, and the property owners, an agreement was reached to install curbs and gutters on the south side of Center street between First East and First West. Work has already been started on the project. The response to the oppeal of the City Beautlficatlon committee for more curbed and guttered streets in Cedar City has been Immediate. Numerous phone calls are being received re-ceived dally from property owners over the entire community. The City would like all who are interested inter-ested in having the work done under un-der a ten year payment plan at three per cent Interest, organize to go in on the same special improvement im-provement bonds. With this In mind, Mr. Urle is asking the Lions club to accept the organization of Cedar for city-wide curb and gutter installation in-stallation as its next community project. |
