Show CELEBRATE ARMY DAY ON APRIL 6 Every American should display the flag on Army Day, April 6, Sergeant Ser-geant Staker said here today. "Its one way that citizens can demonstrate publicly the esteem with which they regard Uie uccom-plLshmenU uccom-plLshmenU of the American ground soldier In war and peace," Sgt. Staker said. Originally designated to com-memoraf com-memoraf the date on which the United States entered the first WorU War, Army Day gradually has becouie the day on wiilch the U. S. Army and lis civilian components: com-ponents: thp National Guard, the Officers' Reserve Corps, and the Resene Officers Training Corps, J make a kind of "annual report" to the Nation. Sgt. Staker said that in many towns and cities, Army Day ulso is enlistment day for scores of qualified qual-ified young men who mark the occasion oc-casion by Joining cither the Regular Reg-ular Army or one of Its civilian components. "These young men", he said, "realize "real-ize more than most that a strong America Is a peaceful America. Their enllstn i nt represents the highest expreson of citizenship, an eagerness to help keep It strong." Sgt. Staker said he realized, of course, that enlistment in the Armed Forces Is a privilege accorded accord-ed only to young men who can meet all the high standards demanded by the Service. But, he added "all of us can do something on Army Day, no matter how small, to show these men we are with them, at least in spirit." "Let's visit the local recruiting station," he suggested. "Pick up the literature there and see the kind of Job our men In uniform are doing do-ing around the world to help strengthen the peace and nourish the instincts of democracy they are finding in peoples everywhere. "If there is a National Guard armory ar-mory near you," he said, "go see the Army Day exhibits. Attend your community observances. If you are a veteran, put your discharge button but-ton in your lapel again as a gesture to the men who will serve on Army Day." "In these ways," St. Staker said, "all Americans can offer a tribute tri-bute to the U. S. ground solder on Army Day.
