Show Navy Veteran Dies At Home After Lingering Illness John Vernon Hunter, 24 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hunter, died at the family home Tuesday following a lingering illness. ill-ness. Mr. Hunter, "Jack" as he was affectionately af-fectionately called by his friends, served with the United States Navy from June, 1944 until February, 1946. While in the service he contracted con-tracted rheumatic fever, and had been ill since that time. He received his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, Ida-ho, and was discharged at Corona, California, where he had been receiving re-ceiving treatment at the service hospital. He was assigned to an Amphibious unit while in the Navy. Before entering the service Jack worked with his father In the livestock live-stock business. He was known as a lover of nature, and became familiar famil-iar with the beauty spots throughout through-out this area. He was born in Cedar City March 19, 1924, a son of Rebecca Schopp-man Schopp-man and George Washington Hunter. Hun-ter. He is survived by his parents and one sister, Afton Hunter Duf-fin, Duf-fin, all of Cedar City; and two brothers, George Eugene Hunter and' Dwane Hunter, both of Las Vegos. Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 2 p. m. in the First ward chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar City cemetery under un-der the direction of the Southern Utah Mortuary. |
