Show Accomplishments Of Present Cedar City Administration Told Citizens of any community, and Cedar City is no exception, seem to be constantly criticizing the city administrative officers for "not doing do-ing anything", but we wonder If sometime, this criticism Is made without serious thought as to what has been done or Is in process of development when the criticism is made. As we contemplate a complete change In administration in Cedar City, when newly elected officers take their oaths next week. It might be well to look back over the past couple of years, and see what has been accomplished by those who will end their service to the community com-munity on December 31. We are not trying to protest or object to the change the voters have decreed, but we do feel that Mayor Myron P. Kigbee and the members of the City Council have done a lot of good constructive wtork, and are entitled to credit for It. Of course, there Is always room for Improvement, and much must be done In the future to keep abreast with the growth that we can expect, ex-pect, but here is some of the things accomplished In the past two years: Establishment of permanent City Ci-ty Engineering Department, with result re-sult that vitally Important engineering engin-eering work has been completed, Including the bringing up-to-date all of the deeds on city property, bringing up to date city water decrees de-crees and filing with the state engineer, en-gineer, establishment of street monuments mon-uments for surveying purposes, survey sur-vey made for Lyman System of street numbering, In addition to a tremendous amount of engineer work in connection with new sewer system development, and on street and water system Improvements. The sewer system extension program is another major development develop-ment consumated by the administration, administra-tion, the plans have been completed for a collection system to serve the west portion of town, and for a new disposal plant A bond issue has been approved and $100,000 In general gen-eral improvement bonds have been sold to complete the project. Several old and obsolete wooden and metal pipe lines in the city culinary water system have been replaced and more adequate distribution dis-tribution system has been Installed Install-ed on several streets. An extensive survey of additional water sources have been made, working in connection con-nection with the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and state engineering offices. A large amount of new city equip-I equip-I ment has been purchased, lmprov- ing the service of several city de-i de-i partments. Among these Items are two fire trucks, two police cars, engineers en-gineers car, two water trucks, 1 street department truck, one patrol grader, one caterpillar, and a covered cover-ed waste removal truck. Developments at the Municipal Airport that have taken place during dur-ing the period are as follows: Plans drawn and approved by CAA for Government, State and City Administration Ad-ministration building, establishment of CAA weather and radio station, inauguration of passenger and mall flight by Western Air Lines, promotion pro-motion of veterans' flight training program, establishment of airport cafe for convenience of air travel. In addition to the street Improvements Improve-ments mentioned In the engineering I department report, signs have been secured and appropriated for establishment estab-lishment of Lyman Sstem of numbering, num-bering, 480 parking meters havi been Installed to facilitate parking, extensive graveling has been done on outlying streets and sidewalks, and much has been done to keep Main street clean, including washing wash-ing of the street dally in the business bus-iness district. A site for a new library and war memorial has been purchased, and provision made for a meeting place for veterans in the memorial building. build-ing. In the field of traffic safety, three-light semlphore signals were installed, more adeqmte safety lighting on North and South Main street Installed, and Traffic Buddies Bud-dies established in school area. In the field of recreation, the swimming pool has been glassed In and a children's wading pool added, ad-ded, summer recreation activities have been provided including children's child-ren's supervised play, Softball and baseball competitive program. The city also cooperated with veterans in race track development program, and has purchased playground equipment. Much remains to be done, but the above record of accomplishments Is one that the administration can be proud of. |
