NEW YEAPL o ff SEASON'S GREETINGS! To our Faithful old friends and our valued new ones we send these greetings of the New Year. 3)oubfe OL Cab Company AS WE SEE IT Production of automobiles has been resumed by the Zis factory, of Moscow. Russia's largest motor car plant. Guess how many cars this plant Is turning out a day. You'd never be able to do it. The answer Is Just plain ONE just a single car every 24 hours from the biggest automobile automo-bile factory the Commies have been able to set up. We've never seen one of the cars turned out by the Zls factory but IX they'll give us a choice well take any car built In America Am-erica in the postwar era. How come the Russians, with their enormous and completely controlled labor supply and, according to the Communists, their wonderful set-up to make the working man happy, can make only one car a day? The answer to that one was supplied by the director of the Zis plant: "One car a day Is all we need." That Is to say, Russia, with a population much larger than that of the United States, has a market for her biggest plant so limited that a single American factory could supply sup-ply a year's demand by working less than one full shift. Of course there are a fair number of "big shots" In Russia who drive cars but they seem to prefer "foreign" makes thus showing good Judgment. Things are much better In some other European countries, but still Immeasurably bad by American standards. In England, for example, exam-ple, they have Just brought out a car designed to catch the type of market supplied over here by Plymouth Ply-mouth and cars In approximately the same price bracket. The British Job Is smaller, has less horsepower and lacks virtually all of the luxury features fea-tures of Its American near-counterparts. But it sells for almost double the price. Incidentally a regulation now Is In effect in England that Automobiles Au-tomobiles can be driven by certain classes of private owners only on urgent business there's no "pleasure "pleas-ure driving" at all any more. Just In case a man wants something some-thing luxurious In a British motor car, he can pick up a Job of the make that generally Is associated with the utmost in swank for from $19,000 up (American Price). There's a tax of 67 per cent on cars listing at over $4,000. So even those Americans who have been waiting over two year for their orders to be filled aren't so badly off by comparison. Studebaker, United States Commissioner of Education, Educa-tion, wants to see education redesigned. re-designed. He says only about S per cent of U. He wants the kids to have basic educational training train-ing in the kind of work that will keep groceries on the table after af-ter they leave school . . . whether whe-ther It's keeping house, farming or working in a store. College bound students can still worry over Chaucer, Freud and Virgil. That sounds as practical as a handle on a skillet ... for as Will Rogers once said. "A lot of people that don't say ain't . . . ain't eating." A Washington man complained that his wife hid his wooden leg to keep him from walking out while she was nagging him.
