Show E. S. O'Connor Retires As Head Of Steel Co. Mining Operations The retirement of E. S. O'Connor, superintendent of Geneva Steel Company's Columbia Mine, Columbia, Colum-bia, Utah, on December 31, has been announced by R. O. Gloss, vice president and manager of op-eratlons. op-eratlons. Mr. O'Connor Is well known In Cedar City having resided here for a number of years, while working in connection with the Iron ore developments de-velopments of Iron county. He came to Cedar City in 1928 as mine engineer en-gineer for the Utah Iron Ore Corporation, which at that time mined ore for Columbia Steel Col oration. In 1935 he was appointed superintendent of U. S. Steel's Columbia Co-lumbia Iron Mining Company at Cedar Ce-dar City, and In 1936 was made superintendent of mines for Columbia Colum-bia Steel Company with headquarters headquar-ters at Columbia, Utah. Since Geneva Steel company assumed as-sumed management of Columbia Steel Company's operations in Utah, October 1. 1946, Mr. O'Connor has been superintendent of the Columbia Colum-bia Coal mine. Mr. O'Connor was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he attended attend-ed public schools. After graduating graduat-ing from the University of Minnesota Minne-sota School of Mines in 1906, he was employed by U. S. Steel's Oliver Iron Mining Company, Duluth, Minnesota. He later worked as superintendent sup-erintendent of mines for Mayville Iron Company, Mayville, Wisconsin, and for Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. |
